Brittany is beaten... The duke François II must be solved to sign the Treaty of the
Orchard, this treaty is in fact a true diktat stipulating that from now the duke recognizes
the primacy of king of France, moreover the prince will not be able to marry his
daughters (Anne and Isabeau) only with the agreement of the king and according to
choice's of this last ! François II cannot support the affront and dies on 9 September,
corroded by sorrow and tiredness... Anne succeeds her father on the throne of Brittany.
The country is devastated. Ruin and misery are the batch of a whole population in prey
with the plunders and confusions of the lorry drivers of all camps...
The sovereign young person (12 years old) has real qualities, intelligent, voluntary and
helped by a remarkable man : Philippe de Montauban, his so devoted adviser in Brittany.
The young duchess will try to save what can be it still !
In France Charles VIII become major takes again the hostilities and puts the siege in
front of Rennes, obliging the sovereign Breton to link itself with him, however Brittany

Brittany by theTreaty of the Plessis Macé (1532).
